How we think can affect how we feel, both physically and emotionally, which in turn can impact on what we do. They can all affect each other into a spiralling cycle that can keep all kinds of difficulties and stresses going. CBT is a structured problem-solving approach aimed at breaking those unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. Together, we will consider proven methods and techniques to help you develop healthier habits, that are more likely to serve you much better in the long term.
We primarily focus on difficulties in the here and now. The influence of the past may also be useful to explore. This is a collaborative approach where I will listen to your aims and preferences during therapy. We will identify how to help you make positive changes, and improve your quality of life.
CBT is a research evidence-based therapy - it has proven effectiveness in treating a range of difficulties, including (and not limited to) those listed below:
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)*
Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)*
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)**
Social Anxiety
Panic attacks / Panic Disorder
Health Anxiety
Specific Phobias
Depression
Low Self Esteem
*I have a special interest in working with those who have difficulties related to OCD and GAD. I continue to facilitate successful groups in these two areas within my NHS role.
**I also have a special interest in working with people with trauma or PTSD (visit page on EMDR for further details on how this can be helpful in treating symptoms of trauma).
If CBT sounds like something you may benefit from, or would like to find out more, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
