About Me

My Background

My experience in healthcare began as an assistant psychologist before later training to become a registered mental health nurse in 2006. During this part of my career, I worked in a wide variety of settings including statutory, charity, education and private sectors, supporting people with severe and enduring mental illnesses. I later embarked on my ambition to become a psychotherapist. Since completing my CBT training in 2017, I have pursued further areas of interest. This includes becoming a Couples Therapist (2020), and an EMDR therapist (2022) currently working towards full accreditation.

My Approach

Whether you have had previous therapy, or this is your first time reaching out for help, I will aim to put you at ease and offer a comfortable space to feel heard, listened to, and understood. I have always had a lot of empathy for others and my approach is one of compassion and kindness. I believe the strength of the therapeutic relationship in itself has enormous value in helping people to heal and grow.

I will be interested to learn more about you and your reasons for coming to therapy. It might be that you are affected by thoughts that stop you in your tracks, worrying excessively for example, causing you to feel very anxious, or depressed. Perhaps you are being impacted by past traumatic memories. Or you may find that your relationship is struggling and in conflict.

Whichever the problems you may be facing, I have a broad range of experience and evidence-based training to draw upon in helping you achieve your goals for therapy.

If you are unsure about which approach to consider, (CBT, EMDR or Couples Therapy), I am more than happy to discuss this with you and guide you through possible options. I will always endeavour to be flexible according to your needs and preferences.

Other therapy approaches listed below are those in which I have had further professional development training and offer other ideas or angles that can be considered during treatment:

Compassion-focused Therapy (CfT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Mindfulness

CBT for OCD

Complex PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

Couples Therapy with a Perinatal Focus (the impact of having a new-born/infant, on the relationship)

I have a special interest in:

GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) &

 OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

I continue to facilitate successful groups in these two areas within my NHS role.

I also have a special interest in PTSD- see my EMDR page for more information on how this can be helpful in treating symptoms of trauma.

I appreciate that choosing a therapist can feel like a daunting and difficult decision. I very much welcome you to contact me for a free 20 minute telephone consultation to find out more or ask any questions you may have.

I look forward to hearing from you.
